Often an Auditor General is constrained in forthrightly expressing findings that might be critical of a government agency. In this report the AG states ‘monitoring of harvest contractor compliance with contractual obligations is limited and current monitoring is unlikely to ensure compliance and high standards of performance. Ongoing breaches of environmental standards and failure to optimise forest resources place the forest under increased pressure.’ The AG also talks about room for improvement regarding transparency when it came to sales of the forest resource.
