Northern Territory Land Clearing Legal Challenge
‘From 2003 to 2009, between 10,000 and 20,000 hectares of native vegetation was cleared each year across the Territory. Most native vegetation was bulldozed to expand pastoral production by replacing trees with exotic pasture grasses, particularly in the Daly River catchment and on the Sturt Plateau, and for an agroforestry plantation on Melville Island.’ (Environment Centre Northern Territory, ECNT website)
